With this whole covid thing going on we are so tired of being stuck at home. Other than going to the quilt shop every Friday morning and a stop at the grocery on the way home I have only been to the dentist and vet once. So stir crazy. We just had to get out of town and take a break. So we have planned a trip to Fancy Gap, VA, Roseland, VA and Intercourse, PA. I wanted to go to Charlottesville, VA, but since it is a holiday weekend I couldn't get reservations. It's probably just as well with all the BLM and ANTIFA people rioting and burning things down and violently attacking innocent people Charlottesville might be a target. Driving up I-75 4 private buses passed us full of mostly black passengers headed north. We were trying to guess where they might be headed or if they were BLM protesters headed to their next violence assignment. I guess we'll find out on the news if that's the case. We are sticking to small towns and areas so that hopefully we'll not run into that stuff. Chattanooga has had some quiet protests, but nothing violent.
We had planned on leaving on Saturday, but I finished up at the quilt shop at 11am on Friday so we were able to gather up the kitties and head to the MH to start our trip early. Because we were going a day early we made reservations in Clinton, TN KOA which is just north of Knoxville and a hop, skip and a jump south of Rocky Top, TN. Ok, got to do the song again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq94Q0APkgM
National Lampoons Vacation problem #1. We were coming up to the exit off 75 and got off just a tad too early (wrong exit). We found ourselves at an exit that had no entrance back onto 75. UGHH. So we went to the rt to turn around. We are driving a 38 ft MH and towing a car mind you, so you can't back up or just turn around anywhere. We followed the road around, up hill, down hill through narrow streets in a neighborhood. A dead end sign loomed ahead. Oh brother! Then we saw an apartment complex that we thought we could drive through to turn around. Apparently, it was part of the projects, but it was just wide enough for us to get through and back onto thee road. We had a lot of people staring at us (probably thinking "these idiots are lost". We lucked out making our way though the narrow parking lot and out and got to the KOA safely.
All checked in and at our nice campsite. Great internet access and a nice level site. Very nice. This was our first trip out since March and although we had cleaned everything well there were just some things we couldn't do until we were actually hooked up with water. One thing David wanted to do was flush out the hot water heater with fresh water. So he turned on the hot water to just let the water flow to flush it out.
National Lampoon Vacation problem #2. Well evidently that's a great idea if YOU HAVEN'T CLOSED OFF THE GRAY TANK. We were sitting in the living area and in flows the water coming out of the shower, out the bathroom door and down the hall to the living area., The gray tank filled up and was flooding the MH. David was pretty upset that he did that, but I always carry lots of extra towels, so we were able to get it all sopped up and I have the cleanest floor ever.
I put the towels outside to dry, but it pored down rain all night long, so we'll have to take them to the laundry when we get to Fancy Gap.
I hope that is the last event of the trip, but it probably won't be. But we're having fun anyway.
The kitties are all settled in. Bentley really enjoys the MH and traveling ANYWHERE. The kitties have a nice scratching post that they use to jump on on the top bunk to their beds. Nickie loves sitting in the cabinet over the bed, so we try to leave that empty for both him and Finnegan to enjoy. We have to close it at night because they like to dive bomb us while we are sleeping..
This is nice campground and I'll have to give them a nice review. It's a bit out of the way, but we aren't in a rush this trip. We'll be heading to Fancy Gap soon.
